Better protection for car rental in Europe
In recent years more and more consumers complained about car rental companies to the European Consumer Centers. Therefore, the European Commission has asked the national consumer authorities to enter into dialogue with the leading car rental companies in Europe (Avis, Europcar, Enterprise, Hertz and Sixt). Today this process has been successfully completed for the European consumer as there are transparent and better conditions from now on.
What does this mean for you?
- The car rental company applies clear and fair fuel policy. Now you will be always given the option to get the car with a full tank and to also return it with a full tank.
- The car rental company informs you about all mandatory taxes and (costs of) additional options; for example winter tyres if they are required.
- The car rental company gives full access to important (rental) conditions. Including mileage, fuel policy and the deposit which will be charged via the credit card or debit card.
- During the booking process the car rental company provides you with all information regarding insurances. Including prices, exclusions and applicable excesses.
- You will be provided with price and details of optional extras, in particular for insurance waivers that reduce the franchise to be paid in case of damage.
- A clear procedure for vehicle inspection applies. You will be provided with reasons and evidence of any damage, before the payment is taken.
- The car rental company gives you the opportunity to challenge any damage before the payment is taken.
