Event voucher for rescheduled or cancelled event due to the coronavirus
Shows, festivals, competitions and concerts have been forced to be rescheduled or canceled due to the coronavirus. In order to prevent event organisers from going bankrupt and you losing your money, the ‘Save your ticket, enjoy later’ arrangement was created by the event industry, the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science and the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM). What does this arrangement entail and what are the benefits? We are happy to explain!
Rescheduling of the event
When an event is canceled due to the coronavirus, an event organiser will first try to reschedule the event and offer you a different date. Your original ticket will remain valid. This allows you to go to your favorite artist, sport game, festival or performance at a later time. Save your ticket, enjoy later! The rescheduled event must be organized within 13 months after the original event.
Voucher for rescheduled or cancelled event
Does the event organiser notify you about the new date on which the event will take place, and are you not able to attend? Let the organiser know as soon as possible after the notification! You will then be offered an event voucher which you can exchange to attend another event. If the event organiser fails to reschedule the event, the event will be canceled permanently. In this case, you will also be offered an event voucher.
Event voucher conditions
To ensure that you receive what you are entitled to, the ACM set conditions with which the event must comply. Curious about the voucher conditions? Check them out below!
- Value voucher
The value of the voucher is equal to the amount you paid for the event ticket, including booking or service costs. - Validity
The voucher can be exchanged for an admission ticket to another event of the organiser up to 12 months after it has been issued. The period of validity is stated on the voucher. The date of the event you choose may be organised further in the future. - Voucher declined? Refund!
If you cannot or do not want to use the event voucher, for example because you do not like the events organised by the event organiser, then you are entitled to a refund of your money.
Would you rather have a refund than an event voucher?
If the event organiser offers you a different date or an event voucher, you do not have to accept. You will be entitled to a refund of the ticket price and service fees. But realize that the consequences of the corona pandemic are substantial for everyone and if consumers reclaim money massively, event organisers may run into financial difficulties.
Event organiser bankrupt? No refund!
If you have bought a ticket for an event and the organiser has to file for bankruptcy, then the chance of getting a refund is small. The organiser no longer has enough money to fulfill his obligations. You are still entitled to your money, but you are in the back in the line of creditors. This has been the reason for creating the event voucher.
