What can I do if my name is wrong on my flight ticket?
The name on your plane ticket must exactly match the name on your passport. If you made a spelling mistake or gave the wrong name when booking, you might have to pay to change it or even buy a new ticket. If you act quickly, you may be able to get the mistake corrected for free.
Name change without cost
If you notice immediately after booking that your name is misspelled, contact the airline as soon as possible. This can often be done through the online booking system or social media. Sometimes the mistake can still be corrected free of charge.
If you want to change your married name back to your birth name, this can sometimes be done free of charge as well. You will need to provide written proof, such as a marriage certificate.
Name change with a fee
If you discover the mistake shortly before departure, you will usually have to pay a fee to correct the name. Sometimes you may also have to pay extra if the ticket price has increased. Costs vary by airline and can be quite high.
Buying a new ticket
In some cases, it may be cheaper to buy a new ticket than to correct the mistake. This depends on the airline’s rules.
