What are my rights as a Timeshare owner?
If you're thinking about getting a timeshare - or already have one - it's important to know your rights. A timeshare can sound like an affordable way to enjoy regular holidays, but it also comes with costs and long-term commitments. That’s why there are rules in place across Europe to protect you as a consumer, especially when it comes to buying, cancelling or reselling your timeshare. On this page, we explain your rights and what to look out for.
What is timeshare?
With a timeshare, you buy the right to use a holiday accommodation - such as an apartment, bungalow or hotel room - for a set or flexible period each year. You don’t own the property, but you are allowed to use it for a certain amount of time. Sometimes the contract is for a fixed number of years, sometimes it continues without an end date. Timeshares are often offered at holiday fairs or through sales presentations while you're on holiday. It may seem like a good deal, but the costs and commitments can be high. That’s why it’s important to understand exactly what you’re signing up for.
