About the ECC

The European Consumer Centre (ECC) was established to give consumers in all EU countries greater confidence in the European market. The ECC does this by giving free legal advice in response to queries, and providing assistance in complaints following purchases from businesses abroad. The ECC is based within the head office of the Juridisch Loket in Utrecht. The Juridisch Loket, the parent organisation of the Dutch ECC, is the independent public legal service provider that actively contributes to a just society.

About the team

Our team currently consists of seven lawyers, a marketing and communications advisor, a marketing and communications officer, and a manager. Together, we ensure consumers are well-informed about their rights in the EU and that they get what they are entitled to. The team is typified by its people-oriented character and collegiality. We also work closely with colleagues abroad.

What does the work more or less involve?

We have prepared a profile of our roles and who we are seeking to give you an idea of the various tasks and colleagues in our organisation:

As a Communications Officer for the European Consumer Centre, you make legal subjects accessible to consumers. Information about consumer rights in respect of cross-border purchases, for example. Or about travel in Europe. And how consumers can assert their rights. You create practical content with tips, step-by-step plans and letter templates for our website and social media channels. You find or produce suitable visuals for these. You maintain contact with colleagues abroad and with journalists, and actively seek ways of achieving publicity for the ECC.

You conduct research into - and make proposals for - the improvement of our online communication (channels) and tools. For example, you research the online (search) habits of consumers to improve the findability (SEO) and usability of the website. You immerse yourself in the latest digital trends and look at how these can be implemented.
