Payment problems at Cleverbuy - Updated

The German company Cleverbuy GmbH discontinued all its business activities due to payment problems. The company is known for buying used phones from consumers. Have you sold your phone but are you still waiting for payment? Or have you sent your phone but has the purchase not been concluded? Then notify the trustee about the outstanding payment or your claim for return of the phone.

Stop sending products to Cleverbuy

Have you sold a product through the Cleverbuy website? Then don't send it anymore. The company can no longer pay you the agreed amount. The website states that Cleverbuy no longer buys or sells products.

Unfortunately, help from the ECC is no longer possible

We kindly ask you not to file any complaints against Cleverbuy with us. Unfortunately, the European Consumer Centre (ECC) can no longer mediate for you in this case. The company has filed for bankruptcy with the German court. The judge reviewed the case and appointed a preliminary trustee. That is someone who decides on the company's debts. The ECC has no influence on this process.

Notify the trustee about your payment or return claim

Have you sold a product and sent it to Cleverbuy? If the company still has to pay you, you can report to the trustee. The trustee is now making an overview of the company, its debts and the remaining assets. 

Email the trustee
Have you sold your phone but are you still waiting for payment? Or have you sent your phone but has the purchase not been concluded? Then notify the trustee about the outstanding payment or your claim for return of the phone. Send an email to @email and include the following information: 

  • Customer number
  • Order number
  • Device type and model
  • IMEI number or serial number, if available
  • Proof of shipment. For example, tracking information or a shipping receipt
  • Any messages from or to Cleverbuy about the purchase, offer, withdrawal or payment

The trustee will first create an overview of all claims. Therefore, it may take a while before they respond to your email. We do not have any information on how long this will take.
