Blue Air will temporarily not be flying
Airline Blue Air will tentatively not be flying. The Romanian airline previously announced that it would cancel all scheduled flights until 10 October. But at the end of September, Blue Air indicated that it would not be in a position to resume flights after 10 October for the time being. It is not yet known when Blue Air will operate flights again. Were you due to fly with Blue Air? Then change your flight dates or request a refund on your ticket.
The Romanian government froze Blue Air's bank accounts earlier this year because Blue Air had not paid fines imposed on it. Although the hold on its bank accounts was reversed, Blue Air opted to cancel flights anyway. The airline indicated that it had no money for fuel and other costs.
What are you entitled to?
- Was your flight cancelled? Blue Air's website says you can change your travel dates. A second option is to create an online ‘wallet’. You can use it to book a new flight later.
- Do you not wish to change your travel dates or create a wallet? You are also entitled to request a refund for cancelled flights. Blue Air must refund the money within 7 days.
- Was your flight cancelled less than two weeks before you were due to fly? Then you may also be entitled to financial compensation. Use our flight calculator to check what you are entitled to in your situation.

Do you have an older complaint against Blue Air?
Are you still owed money from Blue Air for a flight that was cancelled a longer time ago, such as during the pandemic in 2020? Then keep a close eye on time. According to Romanian law, you have three years to revert to the courts if you have a problem after a flight cancellation. For flights cancelled in March 2020, you have until March 2023 to lodge a claim with the Romanian courts. Are you lodging a legal claim in a country other than Romania? Other timeframes may then apply. The ECC lawyers would be happy to tell you more about exactly how this works. Our help is always free.
